LOEB TAKES HIS SIXTH WORLD RALLY TITLE

The Citroen Total World Rally Team crew of Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena won the Rally of Great Britain today and in doing so have claimed a record breaking sixth FIA World Rally Championship title. After a dramatic closing four stages, Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen narrowly clinched the runner up spot, just one second ahead of Dani Sordo and Marc Marti.

At the end of a season dominated by Loeb and Hirvonen, the Frenchman won the title by a single point after one of the closest battles. At the beginning of the year, Loeb looked to have the upper hand, winning the first five events. However, Hirvonen bounced back in the second half of the season to win four consecutive rallies and hold the Championship lead going into the final round of the series. He ultimately finished second to Loeb and Dani Sordo maintained third. Citroen claimed the FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers on the penultimate round in Spain.

Today was the shortest of the three day event and covered just 79.84 competitive kilometres. In the opening stage Hirvonen took the advantage and then slashed the deficit to Loeb to 18.2 seconds after the first loop of stages. However, in the penultimate stage the Finn's bonnet flew up after a jump and he was forced to stop and remove it, losing over a minute and any hope of a final stage battle. As a consequence, he and third placed Sordo reached the finish separated by one second.

Petter Solberg claimed fourth with brother Henning fifth. Sebastien Ogier, previously fifth, rolled into retirement in the penultimate stage. Britain's Matthew Wilson finished sixth ahead of Jari-Matti Latvala and Conrad Rautenbach.

(October 2 - 4, 2009)

LOEB WINS RALLY DE ESPANA

Frenchman Sebastien Loeb cruised through the final stage of the Rally de Espana today to take victory in his Citroen C4 WRC and ensure his fight for a sixth World Rally Championship title will go to the final, decisive round in Great Britain later this month.

"This one was tough," insisted Loeb, "because Dani was pushing very hard at the start, so we tried to fight, but we knew also that we mustn't make any mistakes just fighting together - it was so important for us to finish. But we were really confident. It was really a pleasure to drive again on tarmac - for me it's been a long time since we did it. And the result now should be perfect, I'm really happy, I enjoyed it a lot."

REPCO RALLY AUSTRALIA
(September 4 - 6, 2009)

LOEB WINS REPCO RALLY AUSTRALIA

Loeb completed the brand new rally, round 10 of the FIA World Rally Championship, 12.5sec ahead of BP Ford Abu Dhabi Team driver Mikko Hirvonen who was second. Loeb's team-mate Dani Sordo was third, 4.6sec further back after losing out in a nail-biting battle with Hirvonen that went right to the wire.

"This one is a good one," said Loeb "It was a hard fight, and because it's been a long time since our last win it feels especially good. It was really important for the championship to win here. We've done it and I'm really happy. Spain is next and we're one point behind Mikko - the championship is really interesting. It will be an incredible fight to the final I think."

NESTE OIL RALLY FINLAND
(July 31 - Aug 2, 2009)

HIRVONEN WINS THE NESTE OIL RALLY FINLAND

Mikko Hirvonen's resurgent form in the 2009 World Rally Championship continued today when the Ford Focus RS driver scored a dominant maiden victory on his home round of the series, Neste Oil Rally Finland.

The result was Hirvonen's third consecutive victory this season, the tenth of his career, and moved him further ahead at the top of the FIA drivers' championship standings, three points clear of defending champion Sebastien Loeb, who finished second today.

Hirvonen exclaimed from the roof of his car "I've been watching this rally since I was a kid, and now I've won it myself it's an absolutely fantastic feeling! The rally went exactly like we planned. I always knew it would be close with Sebastien. I've enjoyed myself all weekend. It's absolutely fantastic!"

MIKKO HIRVONEN WINS ACROPOLIS RALLY

"We're back in the championship fight and the final five rallies of the year will be exciting," said Hirvonen. "The next two events, in Poland and Finland, are on fast gravel roads which should suit me."

"It's good to be only seven points behind after what happened in Argentina. The rest of the season will be exciting and maybe we can put some more pressure on Sebastien. It's really good. It brings everything back alive again," he added.

(May 22 - 24, 2009)

LATVALA WINS RALLY D'ITALIA - SARDEGNA

Finn Jari-Matti Latvala has won the 2009 Rally d’Italia after a riveting three days of competition on the scorching roads of Sardinia.

Latvala, 24, led the rally from start to finish in his Ford Focus RS WRC, despite a disadvantageous road position on Saturday and Sunday, which put him first though the slippery gravel stages.

Today's win was the second for Latvala, who became the youngest ever winner of a World Championship Rally on Rally Sweden last year.

RALLY ARGENTINA
(April 24 - 26, 2009)

SEBASTIEN LOEB WINS RALLY ARGENTINA

Citroen C4 driver Sebastien Loeb has won Rally Argentina - and taken his fifth successive victory on the South American WRC classic.

The five time world rally champion headed a Citroen Total team one-two finish, completing the three day event 1min 13.1 seconds ahead of his Spanish team-mate Dani Sordo.

Today's win was the 52nd in Loeb's record breaking WRC career, his fifth from five events this season, and puts the Frenchman in a commanding lead of this year's drivers' championship, with a perfect maximum score of 50 points.

"It really couldn't have gone much better for us," said Loeb. "It's been a great rally. The stages are exciting to drive and we enjoyed a good fight with Mikko until Saturday afternoon. Okay, after he retired it got a bit less exciting but I still enjoyed my driving here."

RALLY NORWAY (Febuary 13 - 15, 2009)

SEBASTIAN LOEB WINS RALLY NORWAY

Mikko Hirvonen gets second place, his Ford team mate Jari-Matti Latvala comes in third.

DRIVERS QUOTES AFTER THE NORWAY RACE:

Sebastien Loeb:
"It's been a great rally but a very difficult one!" said a jubilant Loeb at the end of the final stage. "I had to push on the limit from the very first stage to the last, and mentally it's been difficult to keep pushing, knowing we could lose everything right up until the last corner. I really wanted to win here on snow and it's a great feeling. It's been a wonderful rally; the stages are incredible and it's so much more exiting when you are in a close fight!"

Mikko Hirvonen
"Yes I'm sad we came second but I'm glad it's finished. It was a close fight but it didn't go well for me all the way through.
I don't have any regrets about deliberately dropping time on Friday, it was only one or two seconds and that wouldn't be enough to make a difference. He was quicker yesterday and that was that. Now we have to go to the next rally and go flat-out. Hopefully we can do better there,"

Jari-Matti Latvala
"After a long straight I overshot a junction, It's been a frustrating weekend - not what I was hoping for - but third place is very important. I hope to be in the lead fight again on the next round in Cyprus."
