WALES RALLY GB (December 5 - 7, 2008)

Wales Rally GB is the WRC season closer, with a wet, windy and wild December date. The promise of rain, mud, fog and even the possibility of snow and ice are all thrown into the mix. The gravel forest stages of south Wales, near to host city Cardiff, are fast and flowing and, when wet, can become as slippery as any in the world.

LOEB HAS CHAMPIONSHIP AND WINS WALES RALLY GB

"This one was incredible!" said Loeb at the finish control. "The ice made conditions really tricky. With no gravel crews I didn't like it and I've not been happy all weekend. But today we had a good, good fight and it was exciting to fight with Jari-Matti. After the jump start in the stage before we had to try everything here because for me I was two seconds behind. Finally we won and it's a very good feeling! Also the championship for Citroen it's really good news. With Dani third it's the perfect result for the team!"

News update
Last night Patrick Pivato, co-driver to Francois Duval, underwent surgery to repair a fractured right pelvis and tibia after a high speed accident on stage 6 of Rally Japan yesterday. During the operation some internal bleeding was discovered and the Frenchman was swiftly re-operated on by surgeons at Higashi Tokushukai hospital and placed in intensive care.
The operation to halt the external bleeding concluded at 01:00 this morning and since then Pivato has made steady improvements over the course of the morning however still remains in a stable but critical condition.

HERE IS THE LATEST ON PATRICK PIVATO
Nov 2, 2008

"I'm really pleased to report that there's been good progress made throughout [Saturday] night and his condition is even more stable. He remains in a medically induced coma but doctors are going to operate tomorrow to remove the medical packs from his stomach and the plan is to operate again on Thursday to do the necessary fixes to his pelvis and leg. It looks like he's going to have to spend about a month in Japan but his wife arrived here today and has been able to see him." said Malcolm Wilson, boss of the Stobart VK Ford Team Pivato.

Here are winner Mikko Hirvonen's post race comments:

"I'm delighted with the win but at the same time disappointed that my hopes of the drivers' title are over," said Hirvonen. "We did all we could but it wasn't enough to prevent Sebastien winning the title, which he richly deserves, and I congratulate him. Conditions were so changeable that it was a difficult and nervewracking weekend and I never had the luxury of being able to ease off. I didn't want to take risks in the wet weather today. I was aquaplaning many times and had several lucky escapes."

"Although the drivers' championship is out of reach we will go to the final round with the manufacturers' title still possible and my thoughts will now focus on that," he added.

RALLYE DE FRANCE - TOUR DE CORSE (October 10- 12, 2008)

LOEB WINS TOUR DE CORSE

Sebastien Loeb made it two WRC victories in two weekends by winning the 2008 Tour de Corse October 12th.

Loeb completed the final 26km asphalt stage without incident to win in his Citroen C4 WRC with a lead of 3min24.7sec. In a faultless performance on his home rally Loeb was fastest on all but two of the 16 stages and extended his lead in the 2008 drivers' championship to 14 points.

Loeb's victory on the Tour de Corse kept Citroen ahead of Ford in the manufacturers' series standings by 23 points.

"It's getting better and better" said Loeb at the end of the race. "To win here in Corsica is a great moment. We were much faster all rally and that's great for me and the team. We'll add another two more points to our championship lead. A 14 point lead with two rallies to go looks good. So okay, we'll see how we get on in Japan."

RALLYE DE ESPANA (October 3- 5, 2008)

The Spanish event is based in the PortAventura theme park, in the town of Salou in the Tarragona region. It has wide, sweeping asphalt roads providing the fastest sealed-surface stages of the WRC season. Driving techniques can pay dividends on the fast asphalt stages as drivers aim for smooth lines through the turns to maximize their speed.

REPCO RALLY NEW ZEALAND (August 28 - 31, 2008)

The WRC is is off to New Zealand. The Repco Rally New Zealand is the oldest WRC event in the Southern Hemisphere and is renowned for its fast gravel roads and the beautiful landscape of the country's North Island.

LOEB'S WORDS AFTER THE RALLY:

"This morning I had the spin and just wasn't able to make up the gap to Mikko - I thought it was over and we'd lost the chance," said Loeb "But then it all changed and we were leading again. But this was really a difficult rally, changing all the time, with some strategy coming in too. I needed to win for sure, and that's very nice, but I'm not happy for what happened to Mikko because he was doing really well and it was a good battle. But okay; it's a race and these things happen sometimes."

ADAC RALLYE DEUTCHLAND (August 15 - 17, 2008)

The WRC is is off to Germany for the ADAC Rallye Deutchland. This is ADAC Rallye Deutchland Logo the second asphalt rally of the season and is held in Germany's wine-producing Mosel region, near to the historic city of Trier. This may be an all asphalt event, but it has one of the widest variety of sealed surfaces on the calendar. As such, it's a tricky rally that demands the very best from its drivers.

THE TOP 3 FINISHERS IN GERMANY:

Sebastien Loeb: "I'm very happy to have won here. Germany is a special rally for me, and as we won't get the chance to come here next year it was good to finish like this. We had a good feeling in the car all weekend, and had no real problems to contend with. Everything worked out well and now I am in the best position to start the rest of the season. Maybe New Zealand will be a little more difficult now I will be first on the road, because there is a lot of loose gravel - especially if it's dry - but at he moment I'm happy to take the lead of the championship, and pleased with the job Dani and I did for Citroen."

Dani Sordo: "I'm pleased because second is a good result for both Championships; for me in the drivers' and it's helped Citroen to the lead of the manufacturers'. Of course I'm still trying to win a rally myself, but it wasn't this event. I made a few mistakes, and lost a lot of time on the first day, but on the second I changed some suspension setting and the feeling was very good since then. For Citroen a one, two is very encouraging for the rest of the season."

Francois Duval: "A fantastic result - but it's been a difficult weekend. With only one day of testing after seven months at home I found it hard. On the first and second days I struggled especially, but the finale wasn't so bad for me. If I could get some testing in, it will be much better. My next event is Spain, but if I was asked to stand in for Gigi on Rally New Zealand then I would be very happy to."

The WRC is is headed to Jyvaskyla, Finland for the Neste oil Rally Finland.

The Jyvaskyla Paviljonki area is full of action throughout the rally weekend. There are loads of possibilities that a rally fan can do - no matter how old or young you are. In the Paviljonki area you can enjoy the action of the FamilyWorld, the RallyExpo, the RallyShop Service Park and the Podium.

The Paviljonki area is like the heart of Neste Oil Rally Finland. On top of the huge jumps, fast gravel roads and scenic lake views, Neste Oil Rally Finland is an event with several other activities. In the RallyShow you will meet your favourite drivers, the RallyExpo will introduce you the coolest new cars and in the Karjala RallyParty you can dance like never before.

In the Past the event has been dominated by the Scandinavians. They're used to driving on these type of roads, that's were local experience counts.

LOEB WINS RALLY FINLAND

"I'm thrilled to have won this rally," beamed Sebastien Loeb after the finish podium in Jyvaskyla. "And I'm especially pleased with the way we won it. From start to finish, the scrap reminded me of the clashes we had last year with Marcus Gronholm. It was a very close run thing throughout and we were never able to relax. The decision to keep the lead at the end of the opening day involved a certain amount of risk because we didn't know exactly how much road-sweeping we would have to do. It meant pushing hard all the way, but the tactic finally paid off."

"Our objective today was to keep up a fast pace over the final day's stages and keep a close eye on how our main rival was going," continued the four-time World Champion. "It was important not to make any mistakes and that meant building in a certain safety margin. After spending the first two days driving flat out between the trees, I had absolutely no intention of letting our 42nd WRC win slip from our grasp."

"Today's victory also means we have met one of the objectives we set ourselves at the start of the season and that's a particularly satisfying feeling. I had every confidence in my Citroen C4 from flag to flag and this result gives our chances in the Drivers' championship a terrific boost since it narrows the gap down to just three points. It's been a positive weekend, too, for Citroën in the Manufacturers' standings."

"When you know just how tough it is to win this event, today's result is immensely satisfying," concluded Citroen Total team principal Olivier Quesnel. "Sebastien and Daniel didn't put a foot wrong and they came out on top at the end of what was an unrelenting fight. The tremendous work put in by everyone in the technical team on the C4 since last year has paid dividends. It was awesomely competitive and this is a top result for us in terms of the Manufacturers' Championship, too. The way both C4s performed is particularly encouraging for the rest of the season. Dani and Marc also put in a very mature run. A magnificent victory, some outstanding times, clockwork reliability and a big points haul... what else could we ask for?"

THE RALLY OF TURKEY (June 13 -15, 2008)

The WRC is moving their show to Antalya for the Rally of Turkey. The Turkey event is run on rough gravel mountain roads in the southwest of the country. The event takes place 40 km from the city of Antalya and the headquarters and service area is located in the Mediterranean holiday resort of Kemer.
Due to the high mountain altitudes weather will be a factor in this race. The race stages can be in wet, muddy or even snowy conditions while the service area remains dry and warm.

ACROPOLIS RALLY OF GREECE (May 29- June 1, 2008)

The Acropolis Rally is a combination of rough, twisty mountain stages, blistering heat and choking dust. That equals to cars that have to be the toughest on the WRC circuit. The tough terrain and hot temperatures also take their toll on the drivers. The first Greek event was run in 1953, makig it one of the oldest rallies.

SEBASTIAN LOEB'S COMMENTS AFTER RACE:

SEBASTIAN LOEB Citroen C4
"We haven't had such a quiet Sunday for some time. After yesterday's punishing stages, today's conditions were far more straightforward. We succeeded in driving sufficiently quickly to stayed concentrated but at the same time we did what we could to make sure we spared our tyres and car all the way to the flag.
This is an important win for us, it shows the progress we have made on the loose, while the work put in by everyone in the team to adapt our Citroen C4 WRC to its Pirelli tyres across the full spectrum of surface types has paid dividends. I am pleased with our run over what are incontestably the toughest stages of the season. Today's result has enabled us to recover the lead in the championship and it's been a good weekend, too, in terms of the Manufacturers' championship. The strength and competitiveness of our C4 and the successful management of our Pirelli tyres were the main keys to success here."
