The Canadian Vintage Modifieds have been a presence at Mosport Speedway for many years. The Modifieds have raced in the central and southern area of Ontario since 1966. They started life as OARC which stood for Ontario Amateur Race Club. For a long time the were known as the The Hobby Club, now we know them as the Canadian Vintage Modifieds. Flamboro Speedway serves as their home club and they make appearances at Sauble Speedway, Mosport Speedway, Cayuga Speedway, and Sunset Speedway. This race series is well worth coming out to see.

PHIL SHAW WINS MOSPORT FEATURE
Always an entertaining and highly competitive series, the Canadian Vintage Modifieds were given the honour of beginning the evening's proceedings.
In the CVM preliminaries, former champion Phil Shaw (#0, 1928 Pontiac) and Jason Dinsmore (#62, 1932 Chevy) earned victories in their respective eight lap heat sprints.
Sixteen of the vintage Hobby Cars answered the green flag for the 25 lap feature with Port Perry, Ontario's Rod Sauder claiming the lead on lap two, charging up from his second row grid position. Streaking away from the field, Sauder opened up a ten-car length advantage over a trailing five-car train headed by the #81 Ford of Ron Shaw.
Unfortunately, Sauder's advantage was erased on a lap nine caution, which was thrown to clear the #95 of Rob Warnes from the Turn One runoff. During the caution period, Ron Shaw was forced to retire the 1932 Ford, handing the runner-up position to family member, Phil.
On the ensuing restart, it became a side-by-side battle for the lead with Sauder attempting to fend off the hard charger Shaw. Finally, on lap 12, Shaw used the low line and powered off of Turn Four to assume the race lead, a position that he would hold until the checkered flag.
"I love this place, I want to run here every week," proclaimed Shaw, a three time feature winner in 2009.
Padding his lead atop the division points standings, Shaw added, "I never look at the points, I just focus on running for the wins."
Sauder continued to run strongly, but suddenly, a half a lap from the checkers, he swung onto pit road, due to an engine failure in his #1 car.
With Sauder's mechanical retirement, Brian Atkinson (#92, 1937 Dodge) moved up into the runner-up position, with a three-car train consisting of Dinsmore, Steve Trendell and rookie Jason Keen next to the stripe.

PHIL SHAW TAKES SUNSET RACE
The visiting Canadian Vintage Modified tour kicked off the feature action with their 25-lap affair. Early on, the two drivers that appeared dominant in qualifying, Mike Klotz No. 46 Klotz Auto Repair and Engine Machine Shop Ford) and Chris Milwain (No. 21 The Lawn Guy Chevrolet) waged war for the top spot all over the race track.
The turning point occurred on lap 6, when Milwain made contact with the left rear wheel of Klotz while trying to make a pass for the lead. The contact sent Klotz' car spinning, leading to both victim and perpetrator being sent to the rear of the field as involved cars. This handed the lead over to series veteran and past Sunset Speedway winner Brian Atkinson (No. 92 Beverly Caulking/Performance Plus Automotive Dodge).
Atkinson would lead until the race's late stages, when Phil Shaw (No. 0 Lucas Oil Slick Mist/Harlin Plating Pontiac) began to mount a challenge. For 5 laps, Shaw looked to the inside of the leader, waiting for the right track position and opportunity to make his move. Finally, as Atkinson coasted into turn 3, Shaw jumped to the first grove of the race track, making the clean pass for the lead.
The Orangeville, ON native would lead unchallenged for the remainder of the race, claiming the 25-lap feature victory. Shaw was trailed across the stripe by Atkinson and Steve Trendell. "I'm very happy with this" remarked Shaw "I know he's a great driver, and it just took me a couple of laps to hang back there and see what he was doing". When asked about his Pontiac's loose tendencies, Shaw smirked "I hate a tight handling race car". Shaw went on to thank his sponsors and family, adding the victory was extra special as Saturday night marked his baby daughter's first visit to a race track.
