THE SCCA TRANS-AM SERIES - 2011

The SCCA Trans-Am Racing Series News

The Trans-Am Series is back for 2011 after being resurected by the SCCA in 2009. The technical regulations will be based on current SCCA GT-1 rules from the Club Racing General Competition Rules (GCR) with additional potential safety requirements. The 3rd resurection year prommisses to get better than evwer.

The Trans-Am cars roared on our race tracks from 1966 to 2006 and gained a great following. Mosport International Raceway hosted more Trans-Am races than any other track. In 2010 the Trans-Am Series will again make a stop at the historic Mosport International Raceway. We will be glad to have them back on the Victoria Day weekend May 20 to 22, 2011.

As well the Trans-Am series will join the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and the CCTCC at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres August 5 to 7, 2011.

ROAD ATLANTA
BRASELTON, GEORGIA (SEPTEMBER 28 - OCTOBER 1, 2011)

AMY RUMAN 1ST WOMAN TO WIN A TRANS-AM RACE

"It feels great," Ruman said. "I feel like it's long overdue for our team, but I'm excited to be up here. We worked really hard race after race and unfortunately, our best results were always third. We couldn't seem to break that barrier the last couple years. I led at Brainerd and then it started raining, and it just seemed like there was always something blocking our way, mechanical problems or getting hit."

She added, "This is just a great way to finish the year for our team, especially McNichols Co. and Goodyear. They've been backing me for years and I finally delivered a win. The timing just worked out for us. I was just patient trying to keep everybody at bay and if they got around me, I was just going to hold off to the end of the race and make my move. Unfortunately for Mike, he made a mistake and I capitalized on it and the other yellow came back out. You've got to race to the checkered flag and that's what we did. Even on those last caution laps, those were the longest ones of my life, because I didn't know if they were going to hurry up and go one more. But I just was patient and just praying that everything would stay together and we would see the checkered and we did."

BRAINERD INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
BRAINERD, MINN. (SEPTEMBER 2 - 4, 2011)

TONY AVE SWEEPS BRAINARD DOUBLE HEADER

"We had a little bit of a clutch slipping when it was cold in qualifying, then it ran good for the qualifying lap and we didn't really have time to change it so I just was going to try to run it knowing we just had to start," Ave said. "It caught me out down there and it just started to slip and I had my foot on the throttle quite a ways when it started. I just spun the rear tires and just lost it. Then I tried to do a donut to get going and it was slipping. I thought I smoked it there, so we had to go pretty easy. The rain really saved us because we couldn't run very hard anyway, but the last few laps I ran around half throttle. If you put your foot all the way down it would shake real bad. We just barely made it but our car was so good."

ROAD AMERICA
ELKHART LAKE, WIS. (AUGUST 18-20, 2011)

CLIFF EBBEN TAKES HOME TRACK WIN

Appleton, Wisconsin's driver Cliff Ebben got his 2nd. career Trans-Am Series win in front of the hometown crowd at Road America in his No. 36 McMahon Group/StumpfFord/Lamers Ford Mustang.

"The car was perfect the whole race," Ebben said. "I tried to run consistently and not make any mistakes. I knew there would be a couple of yellows. I was pretty much ready for second place and then Tony started slowing down. I was really surprised. I thought he had it covered. But, I guess you never know. It feels real good to get my second Trans-Am win at my home track."

STREETS OF TROIS-RIVIERES
TROIS-RIVIERS, QC (AUGUST 5-7, 2011)

TONY AVE GETS 4TH STRAIGHT TRANS-AM WIN

"When you go back to '09, we had so much bad luck and this year we've had really good luck," said Ave. "I was just cruising early. I got the lead and pulled away pretty easy and I wasn't really driving very hard, so I thought we'd be OK. Then, we broke a header halfway through."

Tony Ave added "It hurt the power a bit, but it certainly was getting really hot and I couldn't breathe in there. The fumes were so bad, I was starting to get sick and my water bottle was hot water. Then, I broke third gear and I had to run the last 25 laps with no third gear and the header and everything, so I just tried to be smooth. With about five laps to go, the tires were pretty gone on the back. I did some extra laps to try to get the pole, and that didn't help, plus I was trying to conserve the brakes and try to run a little harder off the corners. It was all right. If we had many more laps, it would have been pretty tough."

VIRGINIA INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
ALTON, VA (May 13-15, 2011)

TONY AVE WINS FROM POLE AT VIR

"This win means a lot," Tony Ave said. "I love racing up here. We test a lot here too. So, it shows how good our car ran. Larry Beebe gives us great equipment and we build it all. But he's the one that owns it and has to authorize it all. I don't know what happened to my buddy David Jans. It looks like he dropped out. But, it was a good weekend for the team. To finally win here, after three seconds, is great."

He added:"We picked up a vibration after the first caution. It was shaking badly under deceleration. I didn't think it was going to finish. I think a rear gear was coming apart But, fortunately the car made it to the end. I was worried about it. To honest with you, after the second caution, when I was able to pull away even with the problem, I knew our car was a lot better than everyone else's. Oh man, am I finally glad to win here."

MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK
TOOELE, UTAH (April 30- May 1, 2011)

TONY AVE DOMINATES MILLER PARK

Tony Ave, of Maiden, N.C., dominated the race in today's SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series Round Two race at Miller Motorsports Park, part of the Larry H. Miller Dealerships Grand Prix of Utah. Doug Harrington, of Kemah, Texas, and Simon Gregg, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., finished second and third, respectively.

"The guys did an unbelievable job, plus we had really good engines," Ave said "Our PME Chevy drove right around the Yates Ford (in deQuesada's Jaguar) on the straightaway, which says a lot. It was just our day; we were really fast and the car was on rails. It was good."

"It's good. We went to Sebring and ran around on seven cylinders and finished third, which was good with the problems we had. It's always nerve racking, you always want to get back on top so you have a cushion. Fortunately for us, and unfortunately for RJ, he had a little mechanical drama today. It'll be our turn at some point, but it's going to be a tough championship between us and we've got some other guys that are pretty good, too."

SEBRING INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
SEBRING, FLA(March 17 - 19, 2011)

RJ LOPEZ GOES FLAG TO FLAG AT SEBRING

After getting his first career Trans Am pole position on Friday, RJ Lopez, of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic took his #6 Disco 106, ECR Engines, Goodyear - Chevrolet Corvette to the checkered flag at Sebring International Raceway.

"It feels really great to win here. Sebring has always drawn a big Latin crowd, a lot of people from the Latin community. My dad used to race here in the '80s and a lot of other people from the Dominican Republic, so to get a win here especially in my first time here, is really, really awesome. It means a lot to me. I'm just excited. I guess we're leading the points again and we'll see what we do from here." said Lopez after the race.

Stouffville Ontarios' (and Mosports' own) Blaise Csida came in a respectable 5th in his #07 Gateway Racing Inc. Chevrolet Corvette on the 3.7 mile Sebring circuit with a 46.046 second lag behind the leader.
