JOHN BAKER JR. TAKES CHAMPIONSHIP
For the third time this season, 'Big John' Baker Jr. claimed a racing hat trick, sweeping victories in both the Bob's Towing Sportsman heat sprints, and then claiming the win in the 20 lap feature contest. The #63 Marksmen Club Chevy took the checkered flag eight car lengths in front of the #78 Rapid Racing Monte Carlo of Oshawa's Bob Kish. Defending series champion Bill Northam (#85 Five Points Mall/ Bill Shackleton Re/Max Pontiac) rounded out the podium positions on the final night on the 2011 calendar. With his victory, Baker secured the 2011 Bob's Towing Sportsman class championship. After destroying a set of tires with his post race burnouts, 'JBJ' took time to thanks the fans for their support.
"We come here every week to put on a show, because we couldn't do what we do without the fans in the stands. They're the ones who make this racing thing all possible."

BOB KISH TAKES THE FEATURE
Continuing his late season surge, John Baker Jr. piloted his #63 Marksmen Club Monte Carlo to a pair of heat race victories, and was looking to make it a three race sweep on the night. But Oshawa's Bob Kish had other ideas.Launching past pole sitter Anthony DiBello at the drop of the green flag, Kish took control of the 20 lap contest, leading every lap on his way to his first Sportsman class feature race victory of the season.
Fending off repeated challenges from Baker and the #85 Five Points Mall Pontiac of Bill Northam, Kish led the three car pack to the stripe, earning the win in a bumper to bumper sprint to the checkered flag.
"Man, that John Baker is hard to beat," exclaimed the driver of the #78 Professional Collision Clinic/ Rapid Racing Chevrolet from the Winner's Circle. "I had just enough to match him on the straight, but a couple of times I was right down to the pit wall to hold the low line. But that's short track racing; we did what we needed to do to win."
So frantic was the pace set by the race leading trio, only six cars finished on the lead lap in the caution free contest. Dale Wood (#10) crossed the stripe in a lonely fourth spot, with Shaw and Ken Huntington (#27X) rounding out the top, half dozen finishers.

JOHN BAKER TAKES 20 LAP FEATURE RACE
'Big John' Baker Jr. came into Saturday night looking to continue his winning ways from the past two weeks, when he was able to sweep the Bob's Towing Sportsman events on both occasions.Point's leader Bill Northam of Oshawa claimed the first of the heat races, but Baker Jr. was able to take the checkered flag in the second, setting the stage for an exciting 20 lap feature.
Bob Kish and his #78 Rapid Racing Monte Carlo lead the first four laps of the race before Baker Jr. was able to overtake him through turn 4 on Lap 4 for the lead.
Baker and Kish continued to battle at the front of the pack and by Lap 9, Baker's #63 car had opened a four car length advantage.
On Lap 15, Baker Jr. began weaving his way through lapped traffic and was able to put some extra distance on the #78, claiming his third consecutive Bob's Towing Sportsman feature and taking over the championship points lead.
"It looked pretty dismal with the rain earlier, but we were able to hold it off and get in another great night of racing," Baker said following the race.

JOHN BAKER JR. WINS ANOTHER FEATURE
'Big John' Baker Jr. continued his efforts to wrestle the Bob's Towing Sportsman championship trophy from the hands of Bill Northam. On Saturday night, Baker in his #63 Marksmen Club Chevy edged points leader Northam for the wins in each of the evening's heat races, and the Oshawa driver was looking for his second consecutive Hat Trick as the rivals lined up side by side to begin the 20 lap Sportsman finale.
A Turn Two, five car scramble reshuffled the running order and when the dust had cleared, it was Baker's orange and black mount emerging in the race lead.
"I don't know who to thank for that mess," laughed Baker. "Guys were bouncing off each other and the wall. I was lucky enough to have room to haul it down to the low line and get away from everybody."
A lap two caution brought out for a Ken Huntington spin allowed the Sportsman drivers to catch their breath and calm their nerves. Once again under green, the game belonged to Baker, the remaining 18 laps run 'Clean and Green' with JBJ earning the win.
Bob Kish in his #78 Rapid Racing Monte Carlo, recovering from distributor problems in Heat Race One, was a constant presence in Baker's mirrors, eventually taking the checkered flag three car lengths in arrears of the leader. A victim of the opening lap melee, Northam was able to wrestle his #85 Five Points Mall/ Bill Shackelton Re/Max Pontiac past Dale Wood (#10) on lap 8, this pair, along with the #2 Monte Carlo SS of Tom Cormier, rounding out the top five finishers.

JOHN BAKER JR. WINS FEATURE
John Baker Jr. continues to edge ever closer to Bob's Towing Sportsman points leader Bill Northam and on Saturday night, 'Big John' used a hat trick of race wins to narrow the gap even further. The top three in points, Northam, Baker, and Bob Kish (#78 Rapid Racing Monte Carlo) all finished in the top three in every contest, with Baker leading the dominating trio.
In the 20 lap feature, contest, all three took turns leading the race, but it was Baker in his #63 Marksmen Club Chevy closing the deal on lap five, squeezing low past Northam's #85 Five Points Mall Pontiac as the pair entered Turn Three to assume the point.
Running 'Clean and Green' to the checkered flag, Baker brought out his broom as he made a clean sweep of the evening's Sportsman events.
"I haven't done a hat trick in over two years, and (wife) Sarah missed it," exclaimed Baker. "She pushed me harder than anyone, this race is for her."

BILL NORTHAM WINS FEATURE
With guests of longtime supporters Five Points Mall and Bill Shackleton (Re/Max) in attendance, there was little doubt that Oshawa's Bill Northam was determined to put on a good show for the fans last Saturday evening.Claiming the night's opening heat race win, Northam then piloted his #85 Pontiac into the Winner's Circle in the 40 lap feature contest, holding off points rival John Baker Jr. and Bob Kish for the hard earned victory.
Baker set the early pace, going three wide into the first turn on the opening lap to tuck in behind pole sitter Mike Poulton from his second row grid placing. Taking the narrow line through Turns Two and Three, Bake eventually wrestled the point away from Poulton on lap five, Kish and Northam following suite two tours later to create a three car breakaway pack.
Just before the halfway point, Northam moved around Kish to secure second spot, and began applying pressure on the race leading #63 Marksmen Club Monte Carlo. After almost ten full laps of side by side racing, Northam made the high line work as the leading pair exited the second turn, moving into the race lead on lap 28.
Stretching his advantage over Baker and Kish, Northam in the Five Points Mall Grand Prix took the checkered flag by three car lengths over runner up Baker.
"This winning sure is fun," laughed Northam from Victory Lane. "I think that Johnny had some braking problems, but he sure ran me hard."
Confirming that his mount had indeed lost the rear brakes, Baker was grateful for his second place result.
"I was triple pumping (the brake pedal) going into every corner so I figured I.d better let Bill go before I took both of us out," admitted Baker. "We stole second tonight." Kish (the victor in Heat Race #2), crossed the stripe a further three car lengths behind Baker, with Poulton (#53 Camaro) and Dale Wood (#10) rounding out the top five finishers.

JOHN BAKER JR PUT PRESSURE ON BILL NORTHAM
Sometimes a driver just has to put his foot in it, open his eyes really wide and hope for the best.'Big John' Baker Jr. found himself in that situation on the opening lap of Saturday's Bob's Towing Sportsman feature race, as the driver of the #63 Marksmen Club Monte Carlo survived a three wide battle on the Mosport back straight to snatch the lead of the 20 lap dash.
Splitting Dale Wood and Anthony DiBello in the charge, Baker took the point from fourth place on the grid, with pole sitter Terry Shaw (#27) and Bob Kish (#78) following through in his wake.
2009 division champion Bill Northam (#85 Five Points Mall Pontiac) was slightly more conservative at the drop of the green, but by the second lap had moved into third place, behind Kish and leader Baker.
With the Black and Orange #63 Chevy pulling out to a slight advantage, Northam applied the pressure to Kish's #78 Rapid Racing Monte Carlo, eventually working into the runner up spot on lap eight.
Settling into a comfortable, but high speed, rhythm, the lead trio held their positions until the checkered flag, Baker celebrating his feature victory with an extended burnout along the Mosport front straight.
"Someone asked me to do a burnout last week, but I had new tires and I didn't want to waste them. Tonight, the right rear was scrap, so I burned them down," laughed Baker.
Dale Wood (#10) held on to a fourth place result, while Terry Shaw, using a tight, defensive line survived race long pressure from DiBello to round out the top five finishers.

BILL NORTHAM TAKES THE NIGHT AND POINTS LEAD
After sweeping to victory in the evening's two heat races, Bill Northam had his work cut out for him if he had any hope of realizing the Hat Trick in the Bob's Towing Sportsman division.A five car incident on the opening lap of the 20 lap feature race sent Northam, along with primary point's rivals John Baker Jr. and Bob Kish to the tail end of the field for the feature restart.
Kish (#78 Rapid Racing Monte Carlo) was the first to work his way to the front, wrestling the lead away from Dale Wood (#10) on lap four. A handful of laps later, Northam had clawed his way to the runner up position, and following a full lap of side by side battling, the #85 Five Points Mall Pontiac edged ahead of Kish's Chevy, using the inside line to assume the point on lap 12.
Running 'Clean and Green' to the checkered flag, Northam was able to pull out a six car length advantage over Kish to claim the sweep, 'Big John' Baker Jr. finishing the 20 lap sprint in a closing third place.
Stated Northam, "The car was perfect tonight. We changed one rear tire and the car just took off. And we got a little lucky; John wasn't as fast as he's been the past couple of nights."
Kish's second place finish came after some hasty repair work completed during the intermission which allowed the #78 Chevy to fire on "all eight" cylinders.
Wood faded slightly to cross the stripe in fourth spot, while Terry Shaw and Anthony DiBello swapped positions several times in the closing laps before DiBello secured a top five result with a last lap drag race to the checkers.

JOHN BAKER JR. WINS FEATURE
Although they may take exception to being called 'grizzled veterans', the win in Saturday's Bob's Towing Sportsman feature came down to a wheel to wheel battle between a pair of Mosport's most experienced competitors, past series champions John Baker Jr. and Bill Northam.Taking the green flag side by side from Row Three, it only took the two drivers five laps to work to the front of the field, with Northam in his #85 Five Points Mall Pontiac the first to clear the pack. With Northam stretching his advantage due to the clear track in front of him, Baker put his recently acquired #63 Monte Carlo into full pursuit mode, edging ever closer to the distant race leader.
By lap 18 (of 25), 'Big John' had closed to Northam's back bumper, the leading duo running nose to tail until two to go. Racing side by side for an entire lap, Baker snatched the low line as the pair entered Turn Three, and powered through to take the point.
Refusing to give up the chase, Northam stayed close but was unable to regain the position, trailing Baker to the checkered flag by two car lengths.
"I wrote off my old car a couple of weeks ago but I was able to buy this one from Amanda Connelly," explained Baker. "The crew spent the last week thrashing to make a car that would fit Amanda, fit me. And Hot Dawg, this thing is quick."
The on-track dices were not limited to the front either, as pole sitter Dale Wood (#10) held off a determined Bob Kish (#78), the winner in one of the evening's heat races, for the final podium position.

JOHN BAKER JR. TAKES FEATURE CHECKERED
In the Bob's Towing Sportsman cars it was John Baker Jr. in his #63 Marksmen Club Monte Carlo putting on a driving clinic, taking the checkered flag eight car lengths clear of 2009 champion Bill Northam (#85 Five Points Mall Pontiac) with Bob Kish in the #78 Chevrolet a similar distance further back in third spot.An incredible opening lap charge gave Baker his advantage, as he powered past seven rivals by Turn Three to assume the point.
"I was so far back and I knew I needed to pull a rabbit out of my hat," explained 'Big John' from the Winner's Circle. "Coming to the green flag I suddenly found a big hole and charged through it. I held the gas wide open and when the car stuck going into (turn) One, I knew I had it."
An early yellow flag for contact between Anthony DiBello and Todd Cormier regrouped the pack, but Baker would not be denied as he simply powered away from the Bob's Towing Sportsman field.
Andy Ford, making a return to Mosport Speedway, edged out a determined Dale Wood (#10) for fourth place at the stripe.
