TRISTAN VAUTIER EXTENDS CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

After his win at Sonoma, french racer Tristan Vautier said this.

"It was a tremendous race and I led all the way but there was a little bit of drama. I spun the tires a little bit on the start/finish line as we accelerated, but still managed to get a good start and not make any mistakes. Toward the end of the race, Connor was closing on me a little bit so I had to be very careful to maintain the gap without using up my tires. But it all worked out and I have to give credit to the JDC Motorsports team for giving me a perfect car. We now have a couple of days before the next race at the new street circuit in Baltimore, but we'll just keep working like we have been and we ready to fight for the championship right to the end."

CONNOR DE PHILLIPPI WINS STAR MAZDA RACE 2

California racer Connor De Phillippi became the first three race winner of the 2011 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear season with his victory in today's race at the 42nd annual GP3R at Trois Rivieres.

"We actually threw away all the changes we had made to the cars since we got here and went back to the setup the cars rolled off the trailer with on Friday and that's what worked for us in the race," says De Phillippi, a 18 year old student at San Clemente High School in Southern California. "Nick and I just drove the race we wanted to and were able to take advantage of some mistakes other people made to move up. It really feels like Team Pelfrey is capable of winning on any given weekend, and that, combined with the psychological boost of a 1-2 finish here, gives us some real momentum heading into the final three races of the season."

FRENCH NATIVE TRISTAN VAUTIER WINS FROM THE POLE

Tristan Vautier of Grenoble, France has scored his second victory of the 2011 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear season in race of a double header at the 42nd annual GP3R at Trois-Rivieres.

"It was much hotter today so it was good to be at the front and not have to be in a battle on every lap," said Vautier. "I'm happy to be on the pole again for tomorrow's race, but all the top 4 cars are in the same place also, so I think the second race will be even more competitive and I must get a very good start. I'm fortunate to have a great team in JDC Motorsports and excellent sponsors who helped me get here, so I have all the tools, but to win two in a row you must have a little luck also."

St. PETES - RACE ONE IN THE BOOKS

Connor De Phillippi takes race one in an exciting start to the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear season.

I was able to keep out of trouble in the race and it feels great to head into Round 2 at Barber Motorsports Park in two weeks leading the championship."

Two Canadian drivers Jerimy Daniel and Zach Meyer finished 10th and 12th respectively.

Jerimy Daniel, a top Canadian Formula Ford racer from Montreal Canada - Formula Tour took his #26 FixAuto / Sherwin-Williams Mazda to 10th. 28.881 sec's behind the leader.

Mosport Closest To Home For Ostella
An extensive month of racing comes to a close for David Ostella this weekend as the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear makes its annual stop at Mosport International Raceway. Round 12 will produce a third consecutive weekend of racing, and the fifth race in five weekends in what has been a very busy month of August. The penultimate round of the 2010 schedule is also a special one for the eighteen-year-old, as the famed Canadian road course is just 50 miles from his family home in Maple.

Star Mazda Podium for JDC MotorSports in Wisconsin
ELKHART LAKE, WIS. (August 24, 2010) – JDC MotorSports paid another visit to the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear podium on Saturday (August 21), with rookie leader Connor De Phillippi finishing third in Round 11 at Road America. Initially it appeared fellow rookie racer Chris Miller and Masters Series standout Gerry Kraut would add solid results to the Minnesota team’s resume, however a mechanical failure and contact ended their days prematurely in 17th and 18th respectively. Series race winner Caio Lara was unfortunately unable to take part in the Wisconsin event, due to travel restrictions as a result of his passport and visa being stolen at the previous event in Canada.

AIM Autosportʼs Ostella finishes seventh at Road America
Elkhart Lake, Wis. (August 22, 2010) — David Ostella drove his Global Precast car to seventh place yesterday at Road America in round 11 of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. The seventh-place finish brought important points as David clings to tenth in the Drivers Standings and AIM hangs on the fifth in the Team Standings.

Andersen Racing's Krohn Finishes Fourth at Road America
ELKHART LAKE, Wis., Aug. 21 — Andersen Racing’s Mikael Grenier, Tristan Vautier and Anders Krohn were all on line to post podium finishes during various stages of Round 11 of the Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear Saturday at Road America, but in the end the best result for the Palmetto, Fla.-based team was Krohn’s fourth-place finish.

Juncos Racing Road America Race Report
Elkhart Lake, Wis. (August 21, 2010) – After winning his eighth pole position of the season and simultaneously smashing the record for most poles won in a single season, Conor Daly won his sixth race of the season in this afternoon’s actionpacked event at Road America. Though Daly ultimately claimed the victory, the 18- year-old still had his share of battles throughout the 45-minute race. Daly had a difficult time getting going on the standing-start, causing him to lose two positions right away. The battle at the front of the field remained heated for several laps until Daly finally emerged as the leader once again on lap five.

Juncos Racing Road America Qualifying Report
Elkhart Lake, Wis. (August 21, 2010) – Conor Daly officially scored his eighth pole position of the season this morning at the famous 4.048-mile road course of Road America in Wisconsin, shattering the record for most pole positions won in a single season in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. Though two more events remain in the 2010 season, Daly has already surpassed Michael McDowell’s 2004 record of winning sixty percent of the pole positions; even if Daly does not succeed in claiming the remaining two pole positions up for grabs this season, taking eight poles in a 13-race season would see his average go up just over sixty percent.

David Ostella Road America Preview
After just four days out of the seat, David Ostella jumps back into the cockpit today as the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear begins action at Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The Canadian teenager will be looking to carry momentum from Sunday’s start at GP3R, his best of the year and one that still had the sophomore Mazda driver excited midweek.

Disappointment for JDC MotorSports on Streets of Trois-Rivieres
TROIS-RIVIERES, QUE. (August 18, 2010) – JDC MotorSports’ continued pursuit of top honors in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear did not go exactly as planned this past weekend (August 14-15), during Round 10 on the streets of Trois-Rivieres, Que. The combination of close wheel-to-wheel action on the tight street circuit with a mechanical failure meant the Minnesota-based squad was unable to repeat as race winners at the historic event. 2010 racewinner Caio Lara, in the end, led the way with a seventh place result, while series rookies Chris Miller and Connor De Phillippi finished 14th and 17th.

Joel Miller to Make Second Indy Lights Start This Weekend at Infineon Raceway
Infineon Raceway / August 18 , 2010 – Star Mazda graduate Joel Miller will take another step down the 'Road to Indy' when he makes his second career Indy Lights Series start this weekend driving for Bryan Herta Autosport in the Carneros 100 at Infineon Raceway. Miller will drive the No. 28 entry with sponsorship from Doug Mockett & Company, Lamborghini Travels, Blanco Basura Clothing, Valli Construction and Paradise Landscape.

Welcome Home! Ostella Charges at GP3R!
David Ostella had a very successful Star Mazda homecoming yesterday as his first Canadian start of 2010 turned into a storming drive to fifth by the final flag in Trois-RiviPres. Already two spots forward running through the middle stages of the race, the sophomore driver was among the fastest cars on the track when he passed to sixth in one lap, then took another spot on his way home. Canadian fans duly noted the charge, and Ostella was rightfully thrilled afterward.

Juncos Racing Trois Rivieres Race Report
Trois-Rivieres, Quebec (August 15, 2010) – In a race filled with overtaking, yellow flags and challenging track conditions, Conor Daly battled with the competition at the front of the field to gain yet another podium finish for himself in the 2010 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. Juncos Racing’s Conor Daly Nabs Seventh Pole Position of 2010
Trois-Rivieres, Quebec (August 14, 2010) – Conor Daly proved once again that he is one of the fastest drivers in the 2010 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear when he nabbed his seventh pole position of the season in this afternoon’s qualifying session at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres in Quebec, Canada. In this morning’s final practice session, the 18-year-old Indiana-native generated a fastest lap time of 1:01.303 which would have broken the current track record set by teammate Rusty Mitchell in 2009 had it qualified for an official lap record time (only qualifying and race lap times count towards official records.) Mitchell, however, still officially holds the fastest lap record at the historic Trois-Rivieres street circuit with a lap time of 1:01.341 while Daly now holds a dominant seventy percent of this season’s pole position wins—two impressive feats for two of the Juncos Racing drivers.

Oh Canada! David Ostella Racing For Home
David Ostella makes his first home start of the 2010 season this weekend as the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear turns North for the first of two Canadian events. The 41st Annual Grand Prix of Trois-RiviPres will be the first for Ostella, and the teenager from Maple, Ontario, is very much looking forward to running in his home and native land.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN. (August 11, 2010) – JDC MotorSports’ returns to ‘La Belle Province’ this weekend (August 14-15), seeking to add another win on the streets of Trois-Rivieres to its racing resume during Round 10 of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. With 2010 race winner Caio Lara and Rookie of the Year candidates Connor De Phillippi and Chris Miller getting behind the wheels, the Minnesota-based team has three drivers more than capable of winning a second consecutive race on the challenging Quebec street circuit.

JDC MotorSports Returns to Star Mazda Podium at Autobahn Country Club
JOLIET, ILL. (August 4, 2010) – JDC MotorSports continued its recent run of form in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear this past weekend (July 31-August 1) at the Autobahn Country Club circuit in Illinois. Brazilian Caio Lara led the way, scoring a runner-up result in Round Eight, before finishing ninth in Round 10. American rookie standout Connor De Phillippi added a top-five in race two of the doubleheader, while fellow rookie Chris Miller challenged for top-10 results in both races. Team co-owner Gerry Kraut and local track standout Jeff Garibotti – making his series debut with the team – narrowly missed taking home top honors in the Masters class.

David Ostella Scores Season High at Autobahn
David Ostella is through the first pair in a string of five August starts as the Star Mazda Championship raced a doubleheader at the Harrah’s Autobahn Grand Prix presented by Mazda over the weekend. Keeping with an irritating trend that the season has brought for the sophomore driver thus far, the Canadian teen experienced both a high and a low through races 8 and 9.

Daly Remains in Front from Green to Checkered to Win Fifth Race of 2010
Joliet, Ill., August 1, 2010 – In yet another brilliant run, Conor Daly dominated in this afternoon’s race at Autobahn Country Club to win his fifth race of the 2010 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. He started from the pole position, led every lap from green to checkered flag and once again claimed the fastest lap of the race with a time of 2:13.299. The 18-year-old has also now extended his lead in the driver’s championship by an even larger margin—54 points over Andersen Racing’s Anders Krohn. JOLIET, Ill., Aug. 1 — Two Andersen Racing drivers, Tristan Vautier and Anders Krohn, finished second and third in Sunday’s Star Mazda race at the Autobahn Country Club, while the Andersen Racing driver who won Saturday’s race, Mikael Grenier, placed fourth. Daly Collects Sixth Pole of 2010 Season, All Juncos Drivers In Top-Nine
Joliet, Ill., August 1, 2010 – In just three laps, the least amount of laps run by any driver in this morning’s qualifying session, Conor Daly collected his sixth pole position of the 2010 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. With a fastest lap time of 2:10.580, Daly was just under four hundredths shy of surpassing former Juncos Racing driver Peter Dempsey’s track record of 2:10.546. Joliet, Ill. (August 1, 2010) — AIM Autosportʼs Formula Mazda team celebrated its best result of the season yesterday as driver David Ostella, in the Global Precast car, claimed fourth place in round eight of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. Walt Bowlin, driving a second AIM entry, sponsored by Tampa Bay Jaw Surgery, finished third in the Masters Class. The result serves as a welcome boost for AIM’s Formula Mazda squad which has not had much to shout about this season.

Andersen Racing Rules Star Mazda Qualifying And Then Grenier Seals the Deal Saturday
JOLIET, Ill., July 31 — Andersen Racing, the top team in the Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear, took the top three positions in qualifying Saturday morning in the rain at the Autobahn Country Club. A few hours later the Palmetto, Fla.-based team’s youngest Star Mazda driver, 17-year-old Mikael Grenier of Stoneham, Quebec, led every lap of the race in dry conditions from the pole to earn his first victory of the season by a whopping 3.667 seconds over Brazilian Caio Lara.

Daly Flies through Field from Last Place to Finish on Podium
Joliet, Ill., July 31, 2010 – Though the day got off to a rough start for the Juncos Racing crew, it quickly improved in a thrilling and action-packed race this afternoon at Autobahn Country Club. Conor Daly, who initially qualified fifth this morning, was penalized for a technical infraction following the qualifying session which forced him to start today’s race at the back of the field in 23rd position. Daly didn’t lose focus, however, and delivered another successful and impressive race. By the time the first lap was over, the 18-year-old had overtaken ten cars, and by the end, he had gained 20 positions, resulting in a third place finish. Daly also claimed the fastest lap of the race with a time of 2:13.769 which was the only lap time under the two minutes and 13 seconds mark. He now leads the driver’s championship by 46 points over Anders Krohn.
