Ontario Sportsman Series

LUCAS OIL SPORTSMAN CUP (LOSC)
2011 SEASON

This Stock Car series was formerly known as the CASCAR Sportsman Series, but was abandoned by NASCAR as the CASCAR Super Series turned into the NASCAR CAanadian Tire Series. Not to be stopped, the Ontario Sportsman Series was created to carry on, and now evolved into the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup

The Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup is operated under the sanctioning body of the National Stock Car Association (NSCA)

The first year (2007) saw a 12 race schedule with an appearance at the Mosport Oval June 16th 2007. The other events were at Cayuga Speedway June 23, Sauble Speedway June 30, Peterborough Speedway July 21, Sunset Speedway August 25 and Cayuga Speedway again on september 1. Each race day included qualifying and two 50 lap races.

A total of 24 drivers received points in the inaugural year, and the numbers are expected to grow in coming years.

New in 2009 the Ontario Sportsman Series was pleased to announce Lucas Oil as the title sponsor for the series, and Benson Auto parts as the presenting Sponsor.

In 2011, the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup will again be competing at tracks throughout southern Ontario, including Delaware Speedway, Sunset Speedway, Mosport Speedway, Peterborough Speedway, Sauble Speedway and Flamboro Speedway.

JAY DOERR WINS AT DELAWARE SPEEDWAY

"My Dad did another awesome job on the car tonight, and it was on rails. I have to give so much of the credit to him. I made the outside pass on Matt, and it was great racing. He gave me room, and we had a great race for the lead. It’s also nice to win at home, especially after all the problems we had here with the Late Model last night", said Jay Doerr after the race.

JOSH WOOD SWINS DELAWARE SPEEDWAY OPENER

Shawn McGlynn dominated the early laps of the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup feature event, but it was left to local driver Kelly Balson to waltz away with the Victor's Laurels in the 100 lap evening finale.

By the luck of the draw, (qualifying was rained out), McGlynn (#81) led the 14 car Sportsman field to the green flag from the pole position, turning his front row advantage into the race lead. For 60 laps McGlynn led the pursuing multi car train until a caution period regrouped the field. On the restart, McGlynn slid high in Turn Two, allowing the #10 Pontiac of Balson to duck low and power through onto the point. In clear air, Balson eased away, eventually stretching his advantage over challenger Jay Doerr to nearly a quarter track.

On the white flag lap, McGlynn and Josh Woods (#66) tangled in Turn Two, and with the clock now well past midnight, Balson was the recipient of both the yellow and checkered flags.

"When I came around and saw both flags, I said that's enough, I'm glad we're done," admitted Balson.

It was the Bowmanville resident's second consecutive series victory at Mosport. Doerr, the defending Lucas Oil Sportsman Champion, was credited with the runner up position.
