THE INDY RACING LEAGUE - 2011
IZOD will retain its designation as the official apparel partner of the Indy Racing League (IZOD IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights). Firestone, the exclusive tire supplier to both series, will continue to be the title sponsor of the developmental series.
For 2011 Dallara Automobili, Italy will still be the official chassis, Firestone the official tire, and Honda the engine supplier. This will change for 2012 were other manufacturers have been invited to participate.

Dan Wheldon was pronounced dead at University Medical Center from injuries suffered in a fiery 15 car crash on Lap 11 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. All our condolences to his family and friends.
"No words can describe my feelings as I reflect on my memories of Dan. His infectious smile, bubbly personality and big heart made Dan one of the most caring people I had ever met. You could never ask for a better ambassador to a sport. Dan represented INDYCAR with the upmost respect and integrity. Dan will not only be immortalized as being a great racer but also a wonderful person. My prayers are with Susie and his two children in this very difficult time."

"It felt way better than I ever thought it was going to feel," said Carpenter. "Dario raced me hard and clean. I knew we had the better car but in the second or third step. It was weird race because my visor was falling off in one of the steps and we had all sorts of stuff going on, the team made changes all day to the car - just an awesome day."

DARIO FRANCHITTI WIN 3RD TIME IN TORONTO
In an event filled Indy Race - 8 full course yellows - Franchitti prevailed after an unfortunate contact with Will Power.Franchitti had this to say after the Race. "On the restart, I got a good run down the backstraight and I was on Will's gearbox, and I actually just happened to just lift a little bit to avoid running into the back of him, and he pulled out and I went down the inside, and I started to brake. I thought, 'Well, this is as late as I possibly can go in here' and Will went a bit deeper. I thought, 'Fair play.'
The result of that was that he missed the apex of the corner and he ran wide. So I was, I think, in more control of my car, so I went down the inside there and got about third of the way alongside. As I had done before that day and as I did a lot subsequently both on the inside and outside, we started to run round the corner side by side.
Will started to crowd me there, and unfortunately at that point as he was crowding, the wall comes out, and so I couldn't go any further to the right. So I was trying to get out of it, and I couldn't and I'd say that was my part in the accident. I think Will has equal blame in that in the fact that he came down across like I wasn't there.
I don't like to race like that. I don't like to have contact, especially with the guy you're racing, as closely as Will and I race together."

Franchitti won the first race at Texas.
"Obviously, me starting from 18th and Dario 28th, it's a huge deficit when the competitor for the championship starts third and with not too much competition in front of him. It was a tough race. Thought we had enough for him toward the end there. I just burnt the rear tires off and was too loose and lost a bit of time going into that last pit stop and could never really get it back."

HONDA GRAND PRIX OF ST. PETERSBURG
ST. PETERSBURG, FLA(Round 1 - March 27, 2011)
DARIO FRANCHITTI TAKES NUMBER ONE
"You see how close the field is, so every point matters," said Franchitti. "This is a great championship, with a lot of quality teams and drivers. So you've got to fight all the way, and that's exactly what this team does time after time. The key to our race was making the outside pass on Will on the second restart."Franchitti added: "When I got a gap I was able to kind of control it; not abuse the tires too badly. I wanted to save something for the end just in case there was a last, three laps to go restart or something. The car was running like a dream. It's a great time to be an IndyCar driver, the series is on the 'up' and this will be a fantastic season."
Lachenaie, Quebec, Canada driver Alex Tagliani finished 6th., 30.4655 seconds behind the leader in his #77 Sam Schmidt Motorsports Dallara.

Dearest fellow IndyCar fans (as well as anyone who arrived here via Bloggerās āNext blog>>ā feature),

Like many IndyCar fans the first time I ever heard Bertrand Baguetteās name was when it was preceded by the phrase ā

The Kansas City Star has what would normally be considered a āpuff pieceā on Dan Wheldon, who won the IndyCar series event at Kansas Speedway in ā07 and ā08. And while āpuff piecesā are normally designed for people who donāt follow racing, this one might be telling something to those of us who actually know a bit about Danās career.
By now you've probably heard that yesterday the IZOD IndyCar Series has decided to:
