NIKON INDY 500 STREETS OF SURFERS PARADISE GOLD COAST AUSTRALIA, OCTOBER 26, 2008
This is the final race of the season. The final points race was held September 7th., this race is a feature race with out points.
_____________________________
"I am delighted to be able to confirm that 24 of the IndyCar Series stars will head to the Nikon Indy 300 to join the big-names of the V8 Supercar Championship Series on the Gold Coast this October," said Surfers Paradise event General Manager Greg Hooton.
With the event having a non-championship status there was some speculation as to how many teams would make the trip 'down under', but the announcement of 'a major prize pool' appears to have made the Nikon Indy 300 an attractive post-season attraction.
Lets hope the race is still on. When the race was a Champ Car event before unification it was a great success.
The event will also feature the Haymans Electrical Porsche Carrera Cup , the Coates Aussie Racing Cars, Formula 3, and the Coffee Club V8 Supercar Challenge.

AUSTRALIAN RYAN BRISCOE WINS NIKON 300
Champagne-soaked Australian driver Ryan Briscoe said that up to now the Nikon Indy 300 is the biggest victory in his racing career. Tens of thousands of fellow Australians lining the 2.795-mile street course cheered loud and long.
Briscoe held off current IndyCar Series champion and Brisbane-born Scott Dixon by 0.5019 of a second to become the first Australian and second Penske Racing driver (Emerson Fittipaldi in 1992) to win in the race's 18 year history. This was a non-points exhibition race but still sweet.
"It means almost a million points to me," said Briscoe, who recorded his third victory in his first season driving the No. 6 Team Penske car. "I'm just so happy for all the fans. It was a great event and we're going to turn up the wick tonight. It's really special. It's a great place to have an IndyCar race."

CASTRONEVES TAKES WIN AT SONOMA
"In my perspective, it's a great and special week for us," said Castroneves, who closed to 43 points of Scott Dixon in the IndyCar Series championship chase with two races remaining. "It's like all the hard work paid off. Unexpected hard work. Well, we proved it once when we had the (2006) flood in the shop. We proved it another time when we had the fire on the hauler. So just to prove that those guys, they keep these cars in fantastic shape, and for the drivers to not even notice. I didn't notice, actually. For me, it was a great car."

RYAN BRISCOE WINS THE HONDA INDY 200 AT MID-OHIO
Here are some thoughts of the drivers on todays podium:
RYAN BRISCOE (No. 6 Team Penske, first): "What a weekend for Team Penske. It really couldn't be better. It just feels so good to get this win. It's been a rough couple of weeks in the lead up to here, and this one's sweet for sure. What a comeback. It's all strategy from Roger Penske himself. I don't know if it's momentum, because the two races in the lead up to this one weren't so good, but hopefully we'll keep some momentum from here."
HELIO CASTRONEVES (No. 3 Team Penske, second): "The yellow came in the right place. Ryan drove a heck of a race. I was just trying to do everything I can, and unfortunately I got held up in traffic. We just didn't have enough, so it's a shame, but second is good."
SCOTT DIXON (No. 9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing, third): "It was a good day for us. We started sixth. I knew we still had a car to win. Everything was really crazy today. We didn't get into any rhythm. Everybody knew how it was going to play out and who was doing what, and then we had a bad pit stop when we tried to jump Helio (Castroneves) there, and that put us back a little ways. So it's frustrating, but still I think we only lost maybe five points in the championship."

SCOTT DIXON WINS 2008 INDY 500
Monday night, New Zealand's Scott Dixon received a cheque for almost US$3 million, a record prize from the richest purse in open-wheel racing history. In Scott's words "I don't normally yell too often," he said. "But I was definitely yelling and I had a few four-letter words in there as well to the team. Winning here, it's like nothing else. I keep saying to people that's the funniest part of it because all you're wanting to do is get back to the pits and enjoy it with everybody else. You feel so alone out there on that (cool-down) lap, and all you can do is talk to them on the radio."
It was a good win, congratulations to Scott Dixon and Chip Ganassi Racing.

WILL POWER WINS FINAL CHAMP CAR RACE
Will Power lead 81 of the 83 laps of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, the final race in Champ Car World Series history. Power got his third Champ Car victory piloting the No. 8 Aussie Vineyards-Team Australia entry.
Power said of his win. "I got a very good start in the KVRT Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia car, which I knew was really important. The KVRT team did a great job with the car. I was very fast in the race, good fuel saving, great pit stops. I am very happy for (team co-owner) Kevin Kalkhoven and Craig Gore and all the KVRT team. They have put in so much work over the last couple of months, having been away from their families, it's great to give them a win because they are the ones who deserve it."
Franck Montagny made 2nd, and Mario Dominguez got to the podium in 3rd place. Congratulations to them and all the other teams that participated in this, the last Champ car race ever.
