BRANDON WAGNER GETS WIN, J.K. VERNAY GETS CHAMPIONSHIP

HOMESTEAD, FLA - Brandon Wagner edged James Hinchcliffe by 0.7006 of a second for his first Indy Lights win for Davey Hamilton Racing.

"We've been really working hard all season to get that win," said Wagner, 23. "The car was perfect. I had to make a few changes with the bars when I was battling Hinchcliffe, but he raced me clean. I think the high line in Turns 3 and 4 were the way to go and my spotter, Dane Carter, did a great job on the radio for me."

"Hinch gave me all kinds of room up there, and the car freed up and let me get the momentum to get back around him. I'm used to running wheel to wheel from my USAC races. Having Davey Hamilton as my coach has helped me transition from midgets to Indy Lights. He's been a huge benefit for me."

Canadian James Hinchcliffe, 2nd in the race also got 2nd in the final Chanpionship points in his No. 2 TMR-Xtreme Coil Drilling car.

"We started sixth, which was not quite as good in qualifying as I would have liked," Hinchcliffe said. "We thought it was going to be a decent amount hotter today, so we put a bunch of downforce in the car to try to keep the tires with us and it really helped us get up to Brandon. Just did not have enough to get around him."

J.K. Vernay, finishing in 15th, ended up as the the fifth first year driver to win the Firestone Firehawk Cup.

The other Canadian Philip Major, racing for Sam Schmidt Motorsports finished 8th.

JAMES HINCHCLIFFE GETS THIRD WIN AT CHICAGOLAND

JOLIET, IL - Canadian James Hinchcliffe, who started 13th in the 15 car field, worked his way to the front quickly, but it took most of the race for him to pass Pippa Mann. He passed her in Turn Four before the white flag, then saw Mann edge ahead briefly on the backstretch of the last lap before he grabbed the lead again and carried that momentum past the finish line.

"She pushed me up to the wall - just good, hard racing," Hinchcliffe said. "I had a good run coming down the banking. That helped. If I'd tried that on the last lap, I might not have had enough steam."

The other Canadian Philip Major finished 3rd.

HINCHCLIFFE GETS HIS 2ND WIN OF SEASON

EDMONTON, Alberta - "To finally (win in his home country in open wheel) feels extra special," said Hinchcliffe, an Ontario native. "That cool down lap was a lot of fun, seeing all the fans in the stands. And thanks to all them for coming out because it's such a great event. It certainly wasn't easy. J.K. made me work for it."

"I think obviously the race was largely impacted by qualifying. And for us to sneak that pole out was a huge accomplishment. It led a lot to today. I have to thank the team, our boys a ton. From when we rolled off the trailer the car was quick."

J.K. VERNAY TAKES 4TH WIN

TORONTO, ON - "I didn't take risks because I had the chance to lead and didn't have to pass," said Vernay, who has stood on the podium in six of the seven races. "But I'm not focused on the championship. My goal is to win the championship, for sure. But I prefer to be focused race after race, great qualifying, because on the road courses it is really important. If you start on pole, second, the first two rows, really it's a big deal."

Canadian James Hinchcliffe, driving the No. 2 TMR-Xtreme Coil Drilling car, finished 10th after making contact with the turn 5 tire wall in lap 49.

The other Canadian Phillip Major came in a disapointing 12th.

J.K. VERNAY TAKES CORNING 100 AT THE GLEN

WATKINS GLEN, NY - "It was a really hard race," said Race winner J.K. Vernay, 22, of France. "I didn't know the track when I arrived. The track is so beautiful but so complicated. We improved practice after practice, and by the race the car was fabulous. Three wins for a rookie is not bad."

2nd place went to Canadian James Hinchcliffe, driving the No. 2 TMR-Xtreme Coil Drilling car, finished 0.2135 of a second behind.

The other Canadian Phillip Major came in a respectable 6th.

CUNNINGHAM WINS THIRD TIME

INDIANANAPOLIS, IN - Cunningham, starting second in the No. 77 Lucas Oil/BSS/Sam Schmidt Motorsports car, held off Charlie Kimball by 0.4368 of a second to become the first three time winner of the Firestone Freedom 100 on Miller Lite Carb Day.

"The car was great in the draft and it was pretty easy for me to pass Charlie, and both times he got in front I didn't panic because I knew in a couple of laps I'd be back in front," said Cunningham, the 2005 Firestone Indy Lights champion. "I never gave him the chance to get by."

James Hinchcliffe, winner of the Long Beach race in mid-April, finished 2.3 seconds back in the No. 2 TMR-Xtreme Coil Drilling car for 3rd spot. Dan Clarke, driving the No. 40 Wasteco Deans Knight Special for Walker Racing, posted the highest finish in his three Firestone Indy Lights races (advancing six positions from 10th), and Martin Plowman finished fifth in the No. 27 Automatic Fire Sprinklers/KEP Printing entry.

CANADIAN JAMES HINCHCLIFFE WINS LONG BEACH

LONG BEACH, Calif. - With cars that were equally matched on the 1.968 mile, 11 turn temporary street circuit, it was the restarts that allowed James Hinchcliffe to record his first Firestone Indy Lights victory.

Hinchcliffe got good jumps on four restarts following full course cautions - the last on Lap 41 of 45. It was the second victory for Team Moore Racing (Pablo Donoso won at Infineon Raceway in 2008).

"I made a few mistakes, but lucky they were small enough that nobody noticed," said Hinchcliffe, the pole sitter who led every lap. "It was a great race. The car was solid from the drop of the green flag and we got a good start and into a rhythm. Those yellows kept coming out, but lucky we had good restarts because I just couldn't shake Charlie.

J.K. VERNAY TAKES 1ST RACE OF SEASON

J.K. VERNAY AT THE THE AFTER RACE PRESS CONFERENCE
I did a really good setup on the car, and I learned practice after practice, and I was pushing more and more, and in qualifying we were there, so it was good. I was a bit off, didn't have the pole position, but it's like that.

And today the car was just fantastic. The first lap I was really safe. I didn't want to pressure the race in the first five minutes; it's nearly one hour. I just wanted to take my time. I was really careful on the first corner. After that on the wet my car was just fantastic. I just had to push a few laps and after to control the car for the race, and yeah, I win. It's really fantastic for the first weekend in Indy Lights in my first showing in America.
