THE CANADIAN RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
In 2008 the Canadian Rally Championship enters its 51st year of racing in Canada.
The Canadian Rally Championship rallies are made up of special stages (controlled and monitored roads) and transits (on public roads) where time penalties determine the finishing order. The lowest total time taken on the stage portions of the rally combined with any time penalties on transits determine the winner of the rally. The rallies are organized by member clubs in the area where they take place. The Canadian Rally Championship is currently made up of six events.
The teams are made up of a driver and a co-driver and they compete in one of several vehicle classes. (Open- usually made up of 4WD, turbo vehicles; Group 2- an open class for normally aspirated 2WD vehicles ; Group N- an FIA world class for production vehicles; and Production Class-where vehicles are divided into 4 sub classes (P1, P2, P3 and P4) based on adjusted displacement limits and are allowed modifications only to improve reliability and safety.

Having won the championship at the Pacific Forest Rally back in October, Patrick Richard added to his and Alan Ockwell's lead in the National Rally Championship. A very impressive effort, and congratulations to the whole Subaru Team.

PAT RICHARD WINS CHAMPIONSHIP
Hyundai's Antoine L'Estage and co-driver Nathalie Richard earned their second win of the season at the Pacific Forest Rally, while Subaru Rally Team Canada has secured the championship title.
"We're very happy to have won, and this puts us in a good spot for the North American Rally Cup," said L'Estage. "We had some problems at this event, but thanks to our crew and sponsors, we were able to win again here."
L'Estage and Richard, the defending champions, have suffered from reliability problems this year in their Hyundai Tiburon, preventing this normally dominant team from enjoying the success they have had in the past.
After overcoming their own challenges this weekend, Subaru Rally Team Canada's Pat Richard and co-driver Alan Ockwell charged back from last to finish in third-place overall in their new Subaru WRX STi. The result makes it mathematically impossible for any other team to catch them for the series title at the final round next month.
"I'm really happy to have won the Canadian Rally Championship. I have been away from the Canadian scene since 2004 and so to come back and win the title is just awesome!" said Richard.
This year marks the return of Subaru Rally Team Canada, after the factory effort went on hiatus in 2004.
Second place went to Gord Olsen and Todd Patola of Alberta in their Subaru WRX. The pair steered clear of the troubles many other teams experienced to tie their best career finish.
"We're happy with the result, and it means we're third in the championship now, which is a new thing for us, so that's great too," said Olsen.
Pacific Forest Rally is an event that features treacherous roads and often changing conditions and this year saw many teams suffer mechanical trouble.
L'Estage and Richard dropped out of the lead early in the contest after a failed differential looked like it would end their event. The duo's crew were able to make repairs and the team was able to regain lost ground to eventually top the podium.
Richard and Ockwell suffered a flat tire during the first day of action and were unable to change it immediately. The resulting damage as the tire broke apart pushed the team down the order to the very bottom for the start of Saturday's action.

PAT RICHARDS AND CO-DRIVER ALAN OCKWELL WIN RALLY DEFI 2008
Subaru Rally Team Canada driver Pat Richard and co-driver Alan Ockwell came out on top at a difficult Rallye Defi to extend their lead in the Canadian Rally Championship.
"It's great to have won of course, but I was really looking forward to battling with Antoine (L'Estage) on the longer stages -- so in that sense it's a bit of a disappointment." said Richard.
L'Estage and co-driver Nathalie Richard were the favourites to win the event, but midway through Day 2 , they experienced an engine failure in their Hyundai Tiburon that forced them to retire from the rally.
"This is a really disappointing result for us, after having such a reliable car for the last two years." he said.

May 25, 2008/ Pat Richard and Alan Ockwell won the Rocky Mountain Rally today with their brand new 2008 Subaru WRX STI in heavy rain and fog. After the race Pat Richard smiled "It's a great feeling, the team worked so hard to make this happen. We didn't expect to win, but it's great. We'll take it."
