A1 TEAM KOREA TO COMPETE IN 2008/09
A1GP WORLD CUP OF MOTORSPORT
Apr 14, 2008/ Korea as a nation has taken its first steps into international motor racing, joining A1GP World Cup of Motorsport in an official signing ceremony at the A1GP Shanghai, China yesterday.
Led by seat holder Joshua Kim of Omnibus Investment and supported by entertainment company Good EMG, a Korean KOSDAQ listed company, the creation of A1 Team Korea presents a significant opportunity to develop motorsport in the Asian nation. For the first time, a single-seater race car bearing the white, red and blue flag of Korea will take to the track, competing from the start of season four.
Mr Kim commented: 'Korea has the fifth biggest automobile industry in the world but as a nation, we are not familiar with motorsport so this is my main reason for joining A1GP. Korean people love sport but they do not know about motorsport. Through A1GP, motorsport will become more popular and people will know about the sport, learning through A1GP.'
Speaking at the signing ceremony, A1GP CEO for the Asian region, David Clare said: 'A1GP is going from strength to strength and the addition of A1 Team Korea is yet another example of our phenomenal growth in Asia. From the outset, A1GP has been committed to bringing new countries and fans to the sport and the involvement of Korea is further evidence of our success in this field.
'A1GP is about racing on a level playing field. Now with the introduction of a new chassis and engine from season four, as a result of our partnership with Ferrari, Korea will join the series for this new era on an equal footing, having as strong a chance as any team of being competitive next season. Joining A1GP is a huge step forward for Korean motorsport and any success they experience on the track will be a boost not only for the series but to the overall development of Korea's role in the sport.'
The country and its links with motorsport are well known to current A1GP drivers Adam Carroll, Robbie Kerr and Narain Karthikeyan and former drivers Nicolas Lapierre, Nelson Piquet and Fairuz Fauzy as they have all raced there in the international Formula 3 invitational race round the Changwon street circuit, with Karthikeyan winning the last one in 2003. However, the development of A1 Team Korea marks a significant opportunity for Korean drivers to gain exposure on the international stage.
A1GP News release Apr 14, 2008/ It's good to see a great racing series get bigger. Now we can only hope for an expansion race in Canada.
BRANDS HATCH, GREAT BRITAIN, May 4 2008
Brands Hatch, Great Britain - A1 Team India secured its second win of the season when Narain Karthikeyan took victory in the Brands Hatch season finale Feature race this afternoon while GBR's Robbie Kerr notched up another home race podium after a beautiful drive, just losing out to India during the second round of pit stops. Neel Jani of Switzerland made 4th in the sprint race to secure the Season Championship Title and got 3rd in the feature race.
"This is the greatest moment of my career," said an emotional Jani. "I can't put it into words at this moment. A1GP has been getting tougher every season and this year we got the title. After the first race, winning the title with fourth place felt a little empty but after the podium it feels fantastic. I was a little bit worried by still being sixth after the first pit stop but we had a great second stop and great pace afterwards. Brands Hatch gave us a fantastic atmosphere and a great place to win the title."

22 NATIONS GEAR UP FOR TITLE DECIDER AT BRANDS HATCH
Brands Hatch, Great Britain - As the remarkable third season of A1GP comes to an end, just two teams - Switzerland and New Zealand - are in contention for the prestigious title honours, as the World Cup of Motorsport heads to the legendary Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in Kent for the final round next weekend (2-4 May).
In fact, for the first time in A1GP history all 22 championship positions are still to be decided, with 32 points up for grabs at the season finale. Current title leader Switzerland, runner up in season one, just needs Neel Jani to finish seventh in one of the races - or secure a combination of results to score four points - to win the championship while New Zealand, runner up in season two and currently trailing the Swiss team by 29 points, needs Jonny Reid to win at least one of the races and hope that Switzerland fails to collect any points.
Behind the leading duo, home nation Great Britain and season one champion France are battling for third, although GBR could still mathematically clinch the second-place spot. Behind them fifth-place South Africa is under threat from Germany, who won the 2006/07 title, and Ireland who are currently level with the Germans on 83 points.
Great Britain's Robbie Kerr holds the lap record around Brands Hatch and has already made A1GP history, becoming the first driver ever to win a race on home soil when he took victory in the Brands Hatch Sprint race in 2007. Twenty-eight-year-old Kerr is determined to better that performance this year:
"I cannot wait to return to Brands Hatch and race in front of the home crowd once again. My main focus is to go one better than last year and win both races. Obviously we cannot control our competitors so what happens with the Championship happens, but we'll certainly make sure our chances are good by going out there and targeting the front row in qualifying and then winning races from there."
